Two New York City crane operators have been fined $50,000 and had their licenses suspended after a September crane accident that claimed the life of a construction worker.

Christopher and James Van Duyne cut the guardrail on a platform attached to a tower crane that was being transported to a Manhattan construction site. The men were dismantling the crane at the site of a residential tower.

The worker fell more than 40 stories from the platform to his death.

Christopher Van Duyne’s license has been suspended for eight months. And his brother, James Van Duyne’s license has been suspended for six months. Each has been fined $25,000.

Another worker also had his license suspended by the city for napping while the accident occurred.
