Two Injured in Construction Accident at Deutsche Bank Building

Two fire fighters were injured in a construction accident at the former Deutsche Bank building when a piece of scaffolding collapsed, on Thursday.

Work to demolish the building, located across the street from the World Trade Center that was destroyed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, had been stalled following a fire, Saturday, that claimed the lives of two firefighters. A small group of workers remained on the site to remove debris that contained toxic material.

The accident occurred when one of the workers entered an elevator at the site with a pallet jack and soon after lost control of the lifting tool. The jack crashed through the hoist way door and fell through a construction shed on the ground floor injuring the two fire fighters, according to the fire department.

All workers have been removed from the site and work has been halted. Officials on the scene would not comment. City fire department officials were continuing their investigation.
