Lead Paint Violation Prompts Recall Of Children's Art Easels

Young Artist Easels, manufactured by MacPherson’s, have been voluntarily recalled due to the chalkboard surface containing high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Lead is particularly toxic to children as it interferes with the developing nervous system and can cause permanent brain disorders such as learning, memory, and behavior.

The recalled easels are item number AA13301 and UPC number 082435133010. They were sold nationwide at art supply stores as well as online from July 2004 through June 2009.

To this date, the company has not received any reports of injury linked to the recalled items.

Consumers can contact the company for a free replacement chalkboard panel. In the meantime, the easels should be taken away from small children.

Toy Telephones Recalled By Evenflo

Evenflo Co. Inc., in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is voluntarily recalling Evenflo Switch-A-Roo Telephone Toys because the mirror decal can peel away, posing a choking hazard to small children.

To date, there have been no reported incidents and/or injuries associated with the recall.

The toy recall involves about 25,000 Evenflo Switch-A-Roo telephone toys that were sold at Toys R Us stores nationwide.

Parents should remove the mirror decal from the toy permanently and dispose of it.

OKK Trading To Pay Civil Penalty For Violating Lead Paint Ban

OKK Trading has agreed to pay a $665,000 civil penalty for allegedly importing and selling toys containing high levels of lead, in violation of a federal ban on lead paint on toys.

The penalty settlement was reached between the company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and announced on Thursday.

Lead can be toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health consequences.

The settlement also resolves several other allegations that the company knowingly imported and sold art materials, games, pacifiers and rattles that violated federal safety standards.

In agreeing to the settlement, the company denies the allegations.

The CPSC also announced this month that Mattle Inc. and its Fisher-Price subsidiary agreed to pay a $2.3 million civil penalty for importing and selling toys with excessive levels of lead.

Stuffed Toys Recalled By Old Navy For Choking Hazard

Old Navy LLC, in conjunction with both the U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, announced a voluntary recall of more than 30,000 Stuffed Animal and Creature Toys in the U.S. and Canada.

The stuffed toys have two button eyes that can detach posing a choking hazard to small children.

Consumers are advised to take the recalled stuffed toys away from small children and return it to any Old Navy store for a full refund. If the toy was purchased online, contact Old Navy for mailing instructions.

To date, the company and CPSC have not received any reports of injuries related to the recall.

The stuffed animals are made of cotton and have plastic button eyes. They are available in several styles including a penguin, rabbit and reindeer.

Lip Gloss Keychains Recalled For Lead Hazard

Markwins Beauty Products, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled 75,000 Lip Gloss Keychains because they contain high levels of lead.

If ingested by small children, lead is toxic and can lead to adverse health effects.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury associated with the recalled products.

The recall involves lip gloss with a metal clasp keychain attached to the cap by a chain. Markings on the lip gloss container read, “Lip Gloss,” “Brillant á lèvres,” “Fantasy Makers®” and “from the creators of Wet n Wild.”

Consumers are advised to immediately take the recalled products away from children and to contact the company for an exchange or full refund.

Toy "Speed Boats" Recalled For Burn Hazard

Dollar General Merchandising Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recalled of its Battery Operated Toy “Speed Boats.”

About 200,000 toy boats have been recalled because the two battery terminals can come in contact with one another, causing the battery to overheat which poses a burn hazard to children.

To date, the company has received two reports of the batteries overheating. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled toy speed boats are lightweight plastic toy boats supported by an inflatable hull with “outboard” motors on them. The motor uses two AA batteries. The toy boat measures about 12 inches long by 8 inches wide and comes in various colors and designs.

Consumers are advised to take the recalled toy boats away from children immediately and return them to the store of purchase for a replacement product or full refund.

Daiso Recalls Stuffed Toy Dogs for Choking Hazard

Daiso LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled stuffed toy dogs sold in its stores because they contain small parts that pose a choking hazard to small children.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury.

The recalled stuffed dog toys are crème-colored stuffed dogs have a black nose and eyes. Some of the toys have brown spots on the back. The toys have an attached tag with Japanese language and UPC codes: 4947678264166 and 4947678246063.

Consumers are advised to take the toys away from small children immediately and to return them to any Daiso retail store for a full refund.
