Diane Smith, forty-four, of Jackson, pleaded guilty to charges that she made false statements about a slip and fall accident at McDade’s Grocery located on Fortification Street.

The woman attempted to cash in on a financial settlement by claiming she slipped and fell while visiting the establishment.

She was sentenced to a year, suspended with three years of supervised probation. Also, she must pay $2,000 to the Victims Compensation Fund and pay more than $2,000 in investigative costs.
