JBS-Swift Beef Co., announced a beef recall this week after an investigation found 18 people were sickened with E. coli O157:H7 illnesses that may be linked to the tainted meat, according to the U.S. Agriculture Department.

Today the company announced they are expanding the recall to include 380,000 lbs of assorted beef products boosting the total to more than 421,000 lbs.

The recalled beef products were produced on April 21-22 and distributed both nationally and internationally.

The recalled products are generally used for steaks and roasts rather than ground beef. However some of the beef may have been processed into ground products by other companies.

E.coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and, in severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.

Consumers with questions can call 1-800-685-6328.

Nestle Toll House prepackaged, refrigerated cookie dough was also recalled this week due to the risk of contamination with E. coli.
