A tow truck driver was struck and killed in a car accident Sunday morning on the Cross Bronx Expressway.

The driver, 68, pulled over to the shoulder of the road when the U-Haul truck he was towing began experiencing mechanical problems. He exited the vehicle and was hit by a car. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was charged with driving with a suspended license. Additional charges are pending.

At this time, neither man’s name has been released pending family notification and further investigating.

Motor vehicle accidents in the U.S. result in close to 40,000 deaths each year. For more safety and prevention information about car accidents, visit InjuryBoard’s Automobile Accident Help Center.
